Does my speech stay on my device?
Usually. Recognition runs on your iPhone, iPad or Mac wherever your language supports it. Where your language has no on-device model, your device sends the audio to Apple to convert it to text. The language picker marks those languages before you start. On iPhone, a full-screen notice can appear if on-device recognition repeatedly fails and the app falls back to Apple; the floating window shows no notice. On a Windows PC, recognition runs on the PC once the language’s speech model has been downloaded, in 31 languages. Microsoft online speech is optional and starts switched off: if you turn it on, Microsoft recognises a language that has no model on the PC, over the internet. Your scripts, your audio and the transcripts are never sent to us. The privacy policy has the detail.
Which languages does it support?
Voice following works in every language your iPhone, iPad or Mac can recognise. On current iOS that is 60+ locales. The app’s own interface is in 20 languages on iPhone and iPad, and in 16 on the Mac and Windows. Voice commands exist in 10 languages, with phrases you can edit: English, Russian, German, Spanish, French, Polish, Italian, Portuguese, Ukrainian and Turkish. They also work in Sound and Constant, in any of those ten that your device can recognise without sending the audio to Apple, once you allow the microphone and speech recognition. Sound mode scrolls when it hears you speak, without matching words, so it keeps a script moving even where your device cannot transcribe. Wispim for Windows follows your voice in 31 languages once the language’s speech model has downloaded, scrolls in Sound and Constant in any language, and has the voice commands in English, Russian, German and Polish.
Is there a countdown before the script starts?
There is no 3-2-1 count. There is a start delay you choose before the take: off, 5, 10 or 20 seconds, in Voice, Sound and Constant alike, shown inside the floating window as well as full screen. After it runs, Voice and Sound wait until you speak and Constant sets off on its own.
How do I change the text size?
Move the Text size slider on the Start screen, or pinch the script during a full-screen take. The size belongs to each script, and the size you pinch to is kept for that script. The floating window has no text size of its own: it uses the script’s, scaled to the window, and Strip shrinks it to fit two lines. On a Mac, ⌘+ and ⌘− size the text.
How do I change the line spacing, margins or font weight?
Open Settings and choose Prompter look, under Appearance. It has Active line position, Side margins, Line spacing and Font weight, from Regular to Bold, and they apply to every script. Active line position is for full screen, because the floating window has its own reading line. The floating window’s side margins, 0–40 pt, are under Floating window look.
How do I set the scroll speed?
In Sound and Constant, set the Speed slider on the Start screen, up to 300 words per minute; Japanese and Chinese count characters per minute. Constant scrolls at that speed from the start. Sound scrolls at it while it hears your voice and stops when you stop. Voice has no speed to set, because the script moves to the words you actually say. Its Lead setting keeps the highlight up to 3 words ahead of your voice.
How do I mirror the text for a beam-splitter teleprompter?
Turn on Mirror text on the Start screen. It flips the script left to right for a beam-splitter rig, it is kept for each script, and it applies in the floating window too. On an iPad, the mirror is one setting for the whole device.
How do I put my script into Wispim?
Type it into a New script, or copy it from anywhere and use Paste from clipboard. Both are free, and the number of scripts is not limited. With Pro, Import file brings in TXT, Markdown, PDF, DOCX and RTF files. A .doc file or a Pages document does not import, and a scanned or password-protected PDF is refused with a message.
How do I pause the prompter and carry on?
Tap the pause button at the top right, then tap it again to resume, or say “pause” and “continue”. A tap on the script never pauses it. The paused screen also offers Restart from the top. In the floating window, where nothing responds to touch, the voice commands do it. With a keyboard, Space pauses and resumes on an iPad and on a Mac, where ⌃⌥P also does it from any app.
How do I go back to a line I missed?
Say “go back” to move one sentence back, or tap the word you want and reading carries on from there. In Voice mode you can also just say the earlier sentence again, and the script scrolls back to it. To look before you choose, drag the script: following pauses, a note at the top of the screen says “Browsing”, and a tap on it takes you back. Tapping and dragging work in full screen only.
How do I record a video while reading my script?
On iPhone, tap Record video on the Start screen. Wispim records with the script in front of you, from the front or back camera, with sound, and the script follows your voice while you record. Videos are saved to Photos, where Wispim can add videos but cannot see your other photos, and if Photos does not take one, Wispim offers to share it. Videos are never uploaded. On the free tier, opening the camera counts as one take. To film in another app, such as Camera or TikTok, put the script in the floating window instead.
I bought Pro on Windows. How do I get a refund?
Through Microsoft. Pro on Windows is bought in the Microsoft Store, so Microsoft handles a refund under its own refund policy, and you ask for one through your Microsoft account. Write to us as well if something is broken: we would rather fix it.
Is there an Android, iPad, Mac or Windows version?
For the iPad and the Mac, and for Windows, yes. Wispim runs on iPhone with iOS 16 or later, on iPad with iPadOS 16 or later and on Mac with macOS 13 or later, and all three come from the same App Store page. Wispim for Windows comes from the Microsoft Store and runs on a 64-bit PC with Windows 10 version 2004 or later, Windows 11 included. Pro there is bought in the Microsoft Store, and Pro bought in one store works only in the apps from that store. There is no Apple Watch or Vision Pro version. The Android app is in closed testing on Google Play and is not public. To join the beta, write to support@wispim.com with the address of the Google account your phone uses.
